FITZBILLIES was established in 1922 by the Mason brothers and soon became Cambridge's most popular bakery. Situated among the colleges in the centre of town, students, dons and townspeople daily joined the long queues in Trumpington Street for Fitzbillies' renowned Chelsea buns, as well as the fruitcakes and sponges. Subsequent owners (there have been only three) have guarded the secret recipes, most notably the one for Chelsea buns, and retain all the best of the traditional Fitzbillies range while adding new lines for today's taste in take-away food, novelty cakes and Continental pastries.
FITZBILLIES is still a craft bakery. Its long-serving staff take pride in preserving their high standards of cakes and confectionery, using the finest ingredients and traditional methods. In recent years there has been increasing demand to supply Chelsea buns and fruitcakes by post.
The cafe/restaurant next door to the shop is a popular meeting place in Cambridge where you can enjoy good food, including our cakes and pastries, in relaxed and friendly surroundings.
